Museum Access Consortium Survey

Dear NYCMER members:

Some time ago we conducted a survey among Museum Access Consortium* (MAC) members in an attempt to identify ways in which museums understood and responded to the access needs of visitors with disabilities. The results were used to generate discussion among the MAC Steering Committee. Our goal was to plan the most effective strategies for assisting museums and individuals in efforts to improve programmatic and physical access for all visitors.

We are implementing the survey again and are interested in receiving input from museum professionals beyond MAC members. The information will be analyzed and summarized as group data rather than by institution. The information will be shared with the Museum Access Consortium and other interested museum professionals to address current access issues related to museums and visitors with disabilities. The findings may be used in conference presentations or publications that focus on this issue.

The survey is voluntary and is completely confidential and anonymous. If you provide your name and organization, it will not be shared unless we request specific permission for that purpose. Your input is important to us and we hope that you will take a few minutes to provide valuable feedback to us.

Please click here to complete and submit the survey. If you have any questions about the survey, or need the survey in accessible format, please contact us at 516-465-1601 or 516-465-1608.

Thank you for assisting in our joint efforts to provide programs and museums that are accessible to all visitors.

*MAC consists of representatives from various museum departments throughout the New York City Metropolitan area and members and representatives of the disability community. Members of MAC exchange information, ideas and resources and provide a network of mutual support. Museum Access Consortium members include almost 100 cultural institutions from the metropolitan NYC area that are diverse in size and type of institution as well as service organizations, educational institutions, design firms and consultants. The total number of participants in MAC representing institutions, organizations, consultants, and disability advocates is 170.
