9:30 am Greetings and Introduction to the day with forum coordinators: Lauren Brandt Schloss, Director of Education at Queens Museum of Art, Sara Guerrero-Rippberger, Manager of Art and Literacy with New New Yorkers at Queens Museum of Art, and Gonzalo Casals, Public Programs Coordinator at El Museo del Barrio.

9:40 am Opening remarks from Julián Zugazagoitia, Director of El Museo del Barrio, and Tom Finkelpearl, Director of Queens Museum of Art.

9:50 am Greetings from Jennifer Rothman, President of New York City Museum Educators Roundtable, (NYCMER).

10:00 am Morning Panel: Museum Experiences from Community Organizations and their Members: How Have Museums Impacted Lives? (Part I). Facilitated by Amir Parsa, Museum of Modern Art, Freelance Museum Educator and Poet. Panelists: Younshin Chin, Assistant Coordinator of the New Americans Program at the Queens Library; Leticia Rios, student and volunteer at the Queens Library and Queens Museum or Art; Beatrice Chen, Director of Education at the Museum of Chinese in America (MOCA); Peter Wong, artist, participant in the Lunar New Year Flower Market.

11:00 am Morning Break Out Session. Sample themes: Outreach with NYC Asian communities, Family literacy, Adult literacy and the arts, Perspectives on museums from grassroots organizations, Girl empowerment groups, Immigrant advisories to museums.

12:00 pm Morning Break Out Sessions Report (participants will suggests themes for Afternoon Break Out Session).

12:30 pm Networking Lunch with Community Based Organizations (CBOs) and Museum Professionals. An opportunity to plan potential collaborations.

1:30 pm Afternoon Panel: Museum Experiences from Community Organizations and Its Members: How Have Museums Impacted Lives? (Part II). Facilitated by Sol Aramendi, Creator of Project Luz, Freelance Museum Educator and Visual Artist. Panelists: Micheal Perrone, Assistant Director of the Adult Education Department at Northern Manhattan Improvement Corp. (NMIC); Anatilde Gonzalez, student in family literacy class sponsored by NMIC, the Museum of Modern Art, and the Literacy Assistance Center; Vivian Sebastian, Adult Literacy Specialist at The Tarrytowns Even Start Family Health Literacy Partnership; Gladys Maldonado and Regina Crespo, program participants in Even Start and Katonah Museum of Art Family Literacy Program.

2:30 pm Afternoon Break Out Session (Break out topics to be determined by the conference participants in the morning).

4:00 pm Closing Remarks: Deputy Commissioner Azadeh Khalili, Mayor’s Office on Immigrant Affairs, will announce the upcoming Immigrant History Week. Conference attendees may be interested in writing a proposal to be a part of Immigrant History Week.
