Position Description:
Senior Visitor Experience Associates (SVEA) are ambassadors for the Museum and assists the Visitor Experience Manager (VEM) and Retail Manager (RM) in the day-to-day operation of the visitor services desk and New Museum Store including opening and closing of the museum lobby and oversees the implementation of museum policies. Work hours include weekends, evenings, holidays, and may encompass staffing at offsite events and projects. Senior Visitor Experience Associates reports to the Visitor Experience Manager and Retail Manager.
This position is a union-represented position subject to terms of the Museum’s agreement with Local 2110, UAW, and is eligible for the New Museum’s employee benefits programs. This is a part-time position with 22-24 hours/week and a pay rate of $23.85 per hour.

Job Requirements & Responsibilities:
RESPONSIBILITIES
Visitor Engagement
– Leads by example by proactively greeting and engaging visitors, providing outstanding professional, enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and friendly service to museum visitors. Monitors and when necessary, assists with coordinating visitor flow.
– Oversees the implementation of museum policies with Visitor Experience Associates (VEAs), ensuring professional, warm and friendly customer service, assists with onboarding new VEAs and in enforcing museum protocols with visitors and internal policies with the Visitor Experience team, provides constructive feedback to VEAs in partnership with VEM and RM.
– Leads daily opening and closing procedures including cash counting and completing daily and weekly reports. Ensures lobby areas, store, and galleries are stocked, clean, and prepared to receive visitors prior to opening each day.
– Addresses and resolves visitor inquiries and feedback with professionalism and congeniality; including diffusing situations that may arise and escalating to VEM and RM as needed.
– Maintains up-to-date knowledge of museum exhibitions, programming, membership benefits, events, store products, and museum policies. Assist VEM and RM with update of product knowledge guide and visitor experience procedures guide.
– Assists with admission, public program, and special event ticket inquires, reservations and re-bookings in person, on the phone and via email.
– Assists with check-in and admissions for public programming and special events (exhibition openings, donor receptions and events, store pop-ups and events…etc.). Provides support in store special events, promotions and other related activities both on and off site.
– Provides some reception services for administrative staff.
Sales and Maintenance
– Works to meet individual and team store sales goals on a daily, weekly, monthly, and annual basis.
– Sells tickets for exhibitions, public programming, and special events. Actively promotes and sells memberships and provides member support.
– Accurately performs cashier duties, process cash and credit card transactions with precision in accordance with museum policies and procedures. Reconciles cash drawers daily, perform necessary cash deposits and reports in accordance with museum procedures; ensures safe is always locked and secured.
– Approves and processes customer discounts exemptions, returns, voids and credits in accordance with museum policies and procedures.
– Monitors store and lobby supply and inventory levels, notify RM and VEM of low stock and supply levels.
– Receives merchandise and daily replenishment of store stock on shelves, in back stock areas, and replace merchandise that has sold from displays in store. Assists with processing online orders as needed.
– Operates the store and visitor services desk POS station including troubleshooting basic functions; assist with maintenance of POS supplies, printers, and credit card terminals.
– Maintains store product pricing and in store signage based on current promotions.
– Assists with physical inventory counts.
– Assists with visual merchandising and leads daily maintenance of the store and visitor services desk areas. Works with VEM and RM in visitor experience and store projects.
– Actively participates and contributes to team meetings.
– Other duties as assigned relating to visitor experience and retail operations.

Candidate Qualifications:
QUALIFICATION
SApplicants must be eager to provide professional, welcoming, enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and friendly service to museum visitors. 2 to 3 years experience interacting with the public in a museum, gallery, retail, hospitality or cultural institution is required. Ability to communicate effectively, attention to detail and the ability to prioritize, follow through and complete assigned tasks is essential for this position; previous supervisory experience is a plus. Familiarity and comfort with cash handling, computers and technology is important. SVEAs must be able to occasionally lift 25-pound boxes and be physically active in the lobby, Store and storage areas. A passion for contemporary art is highly desired, and fluency in a foreign language is a plus. Senior Visitor Experience Associates report to the Visitor Experience Manager and Retail Manager

Position Description: The Director of Education leads MCNY’s mission to foster a civically engaged generation of New Yorkers—reaching children at every age, equipping them to engage actively in their communities and city. Partnering with the Chief Curator and Deputy Director, the Director sets the strategy for MCNY’s education programs and leads the operations that bring that strategy to life across K–12, youth, and family audiences, deepening young learners’ connection to New York City and their capacity to participate in shaping it. Founded in 1976, the Museum is dedicated to preserving and sharing the stories of New York’s mass transportation—from groundbreaking engineering feats and the labor of workers who carved tunnels over a century ago, to the communities transformed by transit and the ever-evolving technology, design, and ridership of a system that runs 24 hours a day, every day of the year Position Description: The New York Transit Museum is seeking an exceptional and transit-loving tour guide for the upcoming summer and fall seasons. The Museum’s offsite tour guides provide excellent walking tours of sites and neighborhoods in New York City on a part-time basis. We are looking for a hard-working, curious, and engaging storyteller to join our team who will bring the history of the region and its transit system to life. The New York Transit Museum (NYTM) provides walking and offsite tours at transit sites, including Old City Hall station and in neighborhoods throughout the city. Led by the tour guide and organized and supported by tour guides and Museum staff, these tours take place over the course of the year at various times on weekdays and weekends. Offsite tours are a way for the Museum to extend its educational programming to significant locations and sites beyond its walls and offer a variety of experiences.  NYTM offsite tour guides produce, lead, and manage engaging, welcoming, and informative tours to a variety of adult audiences. Offsite tour guides lead programs developed by others and may research and develop tours as needed. They have demonstrated experience engaging with the public and managing tours, providing unique visitor-centered experiences and implementing in creative problem-solving. They have an interest in and willingness to continue learning about Museum engagement, the history of transit in our region, and related content, and are enthusiastic ambassadors of the Museum. This is a part-time position in the Education Department, reporting to the Public Programs Manager.

Educator, Adult Initiatives and Tour Logistics

Organization Description: Poster House is the first museum in the United States dedicated exclusively to the design and history of posters. Opening in June 2019 in New YorkCity, Poster House provides a space for inquiry for all those interested in design, advertising, and public interventions, with an aim to improve designliteracy among the general public. Through its robust permanent collection, progressive rotating exhibitions, community-centered events, andinnovative school programming, Poster House explores what posters say about society and how graphic design continues to impact the world with anemphasis on visual literacy. Position Description: The Educator of Adult Initiatives and Tour Logistics (EAITL) for Poster House oversees the logistics of tours and programs for K-12 grade schoolgroups, college groups, special needs groups, and adults-only groups. The EAITL collaborates with the Manager of Education to research and writetours and coordinate offerings for adult audiences and professional development opportunities. The EAITL will serve as the primary educator able todeliver tours to all audiences served.  This position reports to the Manager of Education. The regular schedule for this role is 10am-6pm Monday-Friday with flexibility for after-hours andweekend work as needed (approximately ten weekend days per year).

Summer Program Assistant

Position Description: The Center for Architecture’s Summer Programs are weekly architecture and design programs for students in Grades 3-12. Each program explores a different theme through art and building activities, design challenges, guided investigations of architectural examples, and field trips. The Summer Program Assistants provide artistic and administrative support to the Design Educators leading the Summer Programs. As a Summer Programs Assistant, you will serve as an assistant educator supervising and mentoring students in the classroom and on field trips. You will help guide students through the creative process of designing and building their own architectural models.  We will be hiring three assistants: Elementary Focus (Grades 3-5), Elementary and Middle School (Grades 6-8), and Middle School and High School classes (Grades 9-12).
