LSC is a 300,000-square-foot learning center located in Liberty State Park on the Jersey City bank of the Hudson near the Statue of Liberty. TheScience Center houses 12 museum exhibition halls, a live animal collection with 110 species, giant aquariums, a 3D theater, live simulcast surgeries,hurricane- and tornado-force wind simulators, K-12 classrooms and labs, teacher-development programs, and the Western Hemisphere’s biggestplanetarium—the Jennifer Chalsty Planetarium and LSC Giant Dome Theater. More than 750,000 students, teachers, and parents visit Liberty ScienceCenter each year, and tens of thousands more participate in the Center’s off-site and online programs.
Position Description:
The part-time STEM Educator at Liberty Science Center (LSC) delivers engaging, hands-on STEM learning experiences that spark curiosity and makescience accessible to learners of all ages. The part-time STEM Educator actively delivers interactive programs offsite in schools and communityorganizations, onsite in LSC’s learning environments (including laboratories, galleries, theaters, and public spaces), and virtually. Offsite programdelivery requires driving to schools and partner sites throughout the NJ tri-state region.
In addition to program delivery, the part-time STEM Educator helps ensure high-quality setups and maintains safe, inclusive, and engaging learningenvironments. This role supports LSC’s mission by contributing to public-facing initiatives and supporting the continuous improvement of STEMprogramming.
The part-time STEM Educator works as business needs demand and reports directly to the Senior Manager of School Programs and indirectly to theSenior Director of School & Public Programs. This role requires the ability to drive to school partner sites.

What You’ll Do:

Program Delivery:
– Deliver onsite, offsite, and virtual STEM programs, including workshops, assemblies, lab experiences, camps, demonstrations, and publicpresentations
– Drive to schools and partner sites in the tri-state area to deliver STEM programs in classrooms, multipurpose rooms, and auditorium spaces
– Facilitate engaging, inquiry-based learning experiences while maintaining safe, inclusive environments and well-managed learning environments

Program Support & Development
– Support the continuous improvement of STEM programs through research and development assistance
– Contribute to departmental initiatives that engage school groups, families, and the general public through events and outreach
– Maintain professionalism, reliability, strong attendance, and adherence to all LSC policies and procedures
– Perform other duties as assigned based on departmental and business needs
Candidate Qualifications:
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities (KSAs):
– Knowledge of STEM content areas with a willingness to learn across disciplines
– Awareness of NGSS/NJSLS-S
– Strong public speaking and audience engagement skills, with the ability to present complex concepts in an accessible and engaging way to diverselearners
– Strong classroom management and group facilitation skills in dynamic environments
– Capable and comfortable driving to partner schools and program sites (up to approximately two hours) and safely navigating routes using GPS ormap-based directions, with prior driving experience required
– Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with diverse populations
– Strong organization, time management, and reliability with the ability to manage multiple responsibilities in fast-paced environments
Preferred Qualifications & Experience:
– Valid driver’s license (required)
– Must have experience operating a vehicle safely and navigating with passengers; must be able to drive a car 2+ hours with following directions froma map or GPS in all weather conditions
– BA/BS in STEM-related major and/or education/teaching field preferred
– 1+ year experience teaching STEM to children, ages 5 to 16, in either a formal or informal setting
– Experience in delivering educational content in a fun, dynamic way
– Experience and comfort with using software/technology in an educational setting
